Bert Kreischer’s Health Scare and Sobriety: A Life-Changing Journey

3 weeks ago 0

Bert Kreischer, a comedian known for his bold persona in ‘Free Bert,’ encountered a frightening health issue that changed his life. In early January, Kreischer, age 53, was rushed to the emergency room due to intense leg pain. There, doctors found a substantial blood clot behind his knee and more in his lungs. This led to a treatment plan involving blood thinners, preventing alcohol consumption during his recovery.

In March 2026, Kreischer traveled between North Dakota and Iowa for his tour. A tire blew out on Interstate 94, forcing his team to switch buses. The morning after, their original bus caught fire with only the driver inside, who escaped unharmed. Kreischer later discussed with the driver how his lifestyle change due to his health scare might have kept him from danger.

During an interview, Kreischer recalled how the driver noted his absence due to his medical condition as a stroke of luck. Had he been drinking as before, he might have succumbed to the fire. Kreischer admitted that this realization had a lasting impact on him.

Reflecting on the incident, Kreischer mentioned his newfound appreciation for life’s unpredictable nature. He compared his experience to Seth MacFarlane’s story of avoiding a 9/11 hijacked flight due to oversleeping. Kreischer expressed amazement at how luck plays a role in life events.

Speaking about his health journey, Kreischer pointed out how his blood clot diagnosis marked a turning point. The ‘2 Bears, 1 Cave’ podcast host mentioned weight loss and lifestyle changes prompted by family and doctors. His body fat percentage was 40%, leading him to use tirzepatide, a medication aimed at reducing visceral fat and tackling obesity.

Kreischer’s realization of mortality struck him deeply after facing health challenges and personal losses, including a pet’s passing. Known for his hearty ‘Machine’ persona, Kreischer now embraces sobriety, dealing with emotions openly.

During an FYC event for ‘Free Bert,’ Kreischer reflected on how far he and his family have come since struggling financially in Los Angeles. He expressed gratitude for his current success despite past hardships.

Discussing the future of ‘Free Bert,’ Kreischer highlighted the hope for continued enjoyment of the show’s second season. He explained that there are no guarantees in entertainment, likening the process to unpredictability in life decisions.
