The morning after, their original bus caught fire with only the driver inside, who escaped unharmed. Kreischer later discussed with the driver how his lifestyle change due to his health scare might have kept him from danger.

During an interview, Kreischer recalled how the driver noted his absence due to his medical condition as a stroke of luck. Had he been drinking as before, he might have succumbed to the fire. Kreischer admitted that this realization had a lasting impact on him.
