Bobby Pulido, a celebrated Latin Grammy winner, now shifts his focus to politics. Known for Tejano songs such as “Desvelado” and “Se Murió de Amor,” Pulido won the Best Tejano Album award in 2022 and 2025. Recently, he stepped into the political arena as a Democratic candidate for Congress in Texas’s 15th district.

In a 2010 interview, Pulido shared that he has not been shopping since his music career took off, highlighting the demands of his work life. This lifestyle contrasts with the Democratic message focusing heavily on affordability concerns for the 2026 midterms. The strategy emphasizes issues like inflation and high gas prices, which have become points of contention against former President Donald Trump’s administration.

During an event in Mexico, Pulido discussed his economic priorities, stating, “The economy isn’t just about stock market figures. It affects everyday expenses like grocery shopping and paying for necessities.” He identifies rising inflation as a significant burden on his district, which he notes has one of the lowest per-capita incomes in Texas.

Pulido’s campaign aims to challenge Rep. Monica De La Cruz, a Republican incumbent, in a district expected to be fiercely contested due to recent redistricting efforts favoring the Republican Party. The goal is to attract bipartisan support by addressing local economic hardships that resonate with diverse voters.

As Pulido prepares for the election, his history of controversies presents challenges. Still, he frames these as part of his push for a Texas focused on financial realities rather than abstract statistics.
