1 week ago 0

Transgender actor Elliot Page recently talked about ‘healthy masculinity.’ Page emphasized the importance of moving away from the tendency to suppress emotions. During a conversation on the ‘It’s Open with Ilana Glazer’ podcast, the 39-year-old actor, known for his role in ‘Odyssey,’ shared insights on rejecting the societal expectation to be emotionally closed off.

Page stated, ‘Healthy masculinity, for me, involves resisting any impulse to shut down or conform in ways that make us emotionally unavailable.’ Page, who transitioned in 2020, added that since transitioning, he now finds himself smiling in photos, a notable change from the past.

The actor pointed out differences in how men often refuse to smile in pictures. He questioned this behavior, pondering if he should also appear closed off. Reflecting on these observations, Page addressed the harmful norms of masculinity, saying, ‘Healthy masculinity might just be allowing oneself to cry.’

He suggested practical habits that promote well-being, such as staying hydrated, and encouraged men to love themselves more. Page identified how societal rules contribute to issues linked with toxic masculinity, including violence and cruelty.

Elliot Page, formerly Ellen Page, came out as transgender in 2020 and uses ‘he/they’ pronouns. Known for receiving an Oscar nomination for his role in the 2007 film ‘Juno,’ Page has also starred in ‘Inception’ and the ‘X-Men’ series.
