Reese stressed the importance of representation, explaining that visibility for young Black athletes is crucial. “When young girls and boys see a Black woman thriving on the court, it’s impactful. I aim to use my voice and platform to speak out about beliefs,” Reese stated.

The NAACP recognizes “Lift Every Voice and Sing” as the Black National Anthem. Written as a poem in 1900 by James Weldon Johnson with music by his brother John Rosamond Johnson, it debuted by 500 schoolchildren in Jacksonville, Florida, celebrating Abraham Lincoln. Since then, the WNBA includes the song in Juneteenth events, and plans for ongoing programming were announced by the NBA in 2021.

Reese previously claimed racism from Caitlin Clark’s fans during her podcast, suggesting disrespect underlined fan loyalty. “Fans support her, which I respect, but respect has boundaries,” Reese expressed, addressing racial tensions amid strong fan bases.

Following accusations of racist behavior by Indiana Fever fans, the WNBA launched an investigation, eventually finding no evidence. Reese acknowledged the league’s diligent support during these claims. “This league has no room for racism,” Reese commented post-investigation.
