Colson Montgomery’s Home Run Highlights Chicago White Sox Victory

Colson Montgomery achieved a significant milestone in the third inning of the Chicago White Sox game against the Baltimore Orioles. The shortstop launched a home run that reached Eutaw Street, becoming the third White Sox player to do so at Camden Yards. Previously, Adam Dunn and Jeff Liefer were the only ones to achieve this feat.

Montgomery’s home run was part of a seven-run inning that helped the Sox secure a 9-3 win over the Orioles. Jacob Gonzalez contributed with a two-run single, and Junior Perez added a three-run homer in the same inning. This victory positioned the Sox at the top of the American League Central, two games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians.

The Sox finished June with a 13-12 record, marking consecutive winning months for the first time since 2021. Manager Will Venable expressed satisfaction with the team’s consistent performance, despite not having any standout hot streaks or severe downturns.

The victory gives the Sox a crucial road series win, ending a streak of seven consecutive road series losses. Venable stated.

Erick Fedde claimed the win, allowing three runs on five hits over five innings. Tyler Schweitzer earned the save with four scoreless innings, the first such performance since 1997 for the Sox. Fedde relied heavily on his sweeper, crediting it for his effective outing, alongside strong run support from his teammates.

Kyle Teel, returning from an extended injury absence, provided stability at catcher. He received ample offensive support, notably during the third inning. Montgomery’s 440-foot home run, his 21st of the season, was a key play.

Following Montgomery’s homer, Gonzalez hit a single with bases loaded, extending the lead. Perez then hit a 409-foot three-run homer, further increasing the advantage.

Gonzalez added another RBI with a fourth-inning double, helping the Sox clinch their first series victory against the Orioles since July 2021.

In a minor-league trade, the White Sox sent pitcher Ben Peoples to the Texas Rangers, acquiring catcher Ben Hartl. Peoples had an impressive 2.39 ERA with Triple-A Charlotte, while Hartl played in High-A Hub City. Hartl is familiar with the Sox system, having played with Sox outfielder Sam Antonacci at Heartland Community College.
