Tragic Fire in Bangkok Nightclub Claims 28 Lives

3 weeks ago 0

A devastating fire erupted at a bar in northern Bangkok, raising concerns about safety standards in the city. Atipat Wijan, a musician who frequently played there, described how power breakers often tripped. He initially ignored the faint smell of burning near the stage that Sunday night.

Surveillance footage captured a massive blaze surging from the venue’s entrance, resembling flames from a giant flamethrower. An explosion followed, causing panic among patrons. While some smashed front windows to escape, many ran towards the back, where inaccessible exits resulted in numerous deaths.

“There were 11 of us there and two of my colleagues, including my girlfriend, are gone,” said Mr. Atipat, his voice trembling. “Everything happened so fast.”

By Monday evening, Thai officials reported 28 fatalities, with many others hurt, several critically. Details about the victims or cause of death were not disclosed.

This incident adds to a series of tragedies in Bangkok, a city known for its lax safety standards and is a concern for both locals and tourists.

Emergency responders worked tirelessly to manage the aftermath, as the city grapples with the implications of such a disaster in one of its entertainment venues.
