Trump to Address Elections and Voting Machines in Upcoming Speech

3 weeks ago 0

President Trump announced he plans to address the country on Thursday night to discuss election security and voting machines. This comes as an administration task force works to declassify documents related to elections, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Trump has frequently claimed that mail voting is insecure and that noncitizens are voting in large numbers, although these claims are unfounded. Despite winning two presidential elections, he has continued to criticize the integrity of U.S. voting systems, repeatedly describing them as corrupt and vulnerable. He has not provided any specifics but promised to reveal ‘really, really big news.’

Trump stressed the importance of free and fair elections, saying, ‘It doesn’t get bigger because without free and fair elections, you don’t have a country.’ The White House has requested airtime from broadcast networks for the address, which will reportedly cover other topics besides election systems. However, Trump has not specified what these other topics might be.

The planned speech coincides with an ongoing effort by an administration task force to make public a large amount of sensitive government documents. Sources indicate that the task force is focused on election systems, among other issues, including the Russia investigation from Trump’s first term.
