Monica Lewinsky recently shared insights about overcoming shame on her podcast, “Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky.” The 52-year-old activist emphasized the importance of acceptance, noting how it played a vital role in her progress.
Speaking with actress Jamie Lynn Sigler, Lewinsky related to Sigler’s memoir, “And So It Is…: A Memoir of Acceptance and Hope.” Lewinsky stated, “You can’t move through all the steps until you’ve had acceptance. A lot of my progress during my dark decade came from integrating and accepting my past, especially my identity as the White House intern.”
Lewinsky highlighted the effort required for self-acceptance, expressing how she worked to reconcile different aspects of herself. Facing public scrutiny since 1998, after her relationship with then-President Bill Clinton became known, Lewinsky received intense media attention and public criticism.
She shared that her challenging experiences make her empathetic when friends approach her in need. Despite enduring tough times, she acknowledged it was a “pretty miraculous” journey, considering “awful things” that happen to people and what they contribute over time.
Lewinsky also spoke about disassociation during the scandal, a process that helped her navigate the situation. She candidly admitted in a Fox News Digital interview, “There have been some very dark moments,” stressing the significant impact of public opinion and her consistent practice of energy work.
Recognizing the negative energy directed at her, Lewinsky dedicated 20 years to energy work as part of her healing journey. This approach helped her manage the extensive negativity from strangers, demonstrating her resilience.
The 1998 scandal resulted in President Clinton’s impeachment on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, though he was acquitted two months later.
