Jill Biden Discusses Her Memoir and Media Perception of Her Husband

Former first lady Jill Biden participated in a discussion with ‘The View’ co-host Whoopi Goldberg in June. The event aimed to promote her memoir, ‘A View from the East Wing,’ and provided an opportunity to share insights into her life, politics, and media experiences.

During the conversation, Goldberg inquired about Jill Biden’s perspective on the media’s coverage of her husband’s presidency. Biden’s response indicated uncertainty. She expressed a need for time to reflect, stating, “You know, I think probably, well, I mean, seeing how things are now, I don’t know. I don’t know. I’d have to think about that.”

The discussion took place during a 92nd Street Y event in New York City, where both Goldberg and Biden were present. Jill Biden suggested her husband’s administration might have benefited from building stronger connections with the media. “But, you know, maybe we could have done more to reach out to the press to be more open so that they understood us as real people and not sort of these figureheads. That’s one thing I do regret, that maybe we could have formed closer relationships,” she shared.

Biden pointed out a perceived ‘double standard’ in the media’s coverage of the Biden administration compared to the Trump administration. She noted, “You know, if Joe would have done any one of the things that are occurring now, I mean he would have been excoriated.” Goldberg agreed, chuckling in response, “Oh yeah.” Biden continued to emphasize the unfairness of the situation.

Additionally, Biden addressed Democratic critics who argued her memoir unnecessarily revisited controversies from the 2024 election. Critics such as former White House spokesman Andrew Bates expressed concerns about reopening painful topics. Responding during a book event in Washington, D.C., Biden conveyed her viewpoint, “I want to say to Andrew: Call me up, and say it to my face, buddy,” emphasizing that her book contained only “one chapter on politics.”
