A Memphis mother, Kendra Scott, is facing a murder charge following the fatal shooting of a man allegedly hiding under her daughter’s bed. The incident occurred last Thursday, and authorities have charged Scott, 36, with first-degree murder.
According to a statement, Scott claimed, “I saw a dude under my kids’ bed, and I did what I had to do.” The man, identified as Rodderius Morton, was found by police in the front yard with a gunshot wound to his head. Officers responded to a shooting report at the 3000 block of Travis Road, where they discovered Morton’s body.
A juvenile witness recounted that they heard Scott yelling, “Who’s at my house?” before she entered the home and discovered Morton. Police report that Morton and Scott argued as he attempted to leave without a weapon, with Scott reportedly shouting, “Get out of my house, —–!”
One witness indicated that Morton had entered the home through the back door after receiving an invitation. The same witness heard a single gunshot while Scott and Morton were on the front porch. Documents reveal that Scott had previously stated an intention to shoot if she encountered an unwanted male in her house.
Scott faces charges of first-degree murder along with the employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. She is currently being held without bond. Attempts to reach Scott’s attorney for comments have been made.
