His standout performance came in 2021, earning him All-Pro honors with 1,770 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns.
In 2025, the 49ers traded Samuel to the Washington Commanders for a fifth-round draft pick. During his time with the Commanders, he recorded 72 catches, totaling 727 yards and five touchdowns last season. Samuel became a free agent in March, paving the way for his return to San Francisco, where he will strengthen the 49ers with Pearsall sidelined.
