Authorities are actively searching for a gunman who shot an innocent Walmart employee during a dispute between two men inside a Pennsylvania store on Friday evening. The event unfolded at the Walmart located at 50 McDade Blvd. in Darby Township, Delaware County.
Reports of gunfire inside the store prompted officers to respond shortly after 7 p.m. Darby Township Police Chief Michael Sousa informed Fox News Digital that investigators believe the altercation occurred in the self-checkout area. Among the two individuals involved, one allegedly drew a handgun and fired.
“It looked like, from what we’re gathering with my detectives, two males got into a verbal altercation at self-checkout,” Sousa stated. “One of the males brandishes a firearm, fires a round indiscriminately and hits one of the female Walmart employees in the leg — not the subject he was arguing with.”
The injured Walmart employee was transported to a hospital, though no immediate update on her condition was provided. The suspect fled before officers arrived and remains at large. Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage to identify the shooter.
“There is no threat to the public,” Sousa confirmed, mentioning that officers have cleared both the Walmart and nearby businesses. The investigation is ongoing.
