Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is progressing towards Senate confirmation. On Sunday, he formally withdrew the contentious $1.8 billion fund designed to counter weaponization and adjusted the tax protections from President Donald Trump’s IRS settlement.
A representative for Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas, announced that an agreement had been reached. Both Cornyn and Senator Thom Tillis, R-N.C., had previously delayed Blanche’s nomination. The Senate Judiciary Committee is poised to vote on this nomination on Tuesday.
“My team and I have collaborated with committee members and Senators over recent weeks to address any concerns or unresolved questions,” Blanche stated on Sunday.

“We have had constructive discussions and, as a result, have issued the following order and update regarding the May IRS settlement. The Department values and appreciates meaningful engagement with all Congress members,” he continued.
Blanche’s latest order officially rescinded the directive from May 18 that established the fund. It also specified that the tax-related protections from the settlement would only cover past actions, not future tax filings.
