Cleveland Browns’ Quarterback Cohesion Amid Training Camp

The Cleveland Browns have started their training camp, with quarterback Shedeur Sanders expressing confidence in the team’s unity. Despite challenges faced by other teams’ quarterbacks, Sanders feels his team avoids such internal issues.

While conversing with Browns legend Bernie Kosar, Sanders shared his thoughts on the camp’s positive environment in his second year. He stated, “I’m truly excited for this year that the attitude about everybody in the building, like we the hard coaching, we like all that stuff, because we know it’s coming from a place of wanting us to be great. … Everybody’s goal is aligned here. That’s why we don’t have the petty quarterback battles internally. That’s not up to us; that’s up to whoever the coaches think,” he told Kosar.

Selected in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Sanders became the Browns’ starting quarterback in Week 11 after Dillon Gabriel was sidelined by a concussion. In his rookie year, Sanders displayed his leadership, securing a 3-4 record in seven starts and passing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and ten interceptions. His efforts led to a surprising Pro Bowl selection.

As he enters his sophomore year, Sanders faces competition from seasoned NFL player Deshaun Watson for the starting role. However, no decisive indications have been given by the new head coach, Todd Monken, regarding the starting position. Dillon Gabriel also remains on the depth chart as the third option, eager for any opportunity to lead.

Despite the competitive environment, Sanders noted strong camaraderie in the quarterback room, telling Kosar, “That’s where I say we’ve grown for sure the most. I’d say for sure in the quarterback room,” receiving admiration from Kosar for their unity.

The Browns will play their first preseason game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on August 15. Their regular season opener is set for September 13, facing Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
