Comedian Jeff Dye responded after fellow performer Laura Kightlinger wrote an insult on his Tesla’s windshield. Dye criticized Kightlinger’s behavior as unsuitable for a 60-year-old woman. On social media platform X, Dye shared images from his Tesla’s security cameras showing Kightlinger writing ‘Douche’ in the fog on his car. He mentioned that they performed at the same show but had no prior interaction.

The incident attracted significant online attention with over 440,000 views. Dye speculated that if he had done something similar to her, she would have likely discussed the treatment of women in comedy extensively. Kightlinger, known for her work as a consulting producer on ‘Will & Grace’ and her specials on Comedy Central and HBO, had previously supported Bernie Sanders in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Dye, identifying as conservative, expressed his religious views, noting they set him apart in the comedy world. Following his post, Kightlinger shared her perspective along with a photo of the writing. She explained her reaction stemmed from annoyance at Dye’s remarks about another comedian.

Kightlinger acknowledged the act was impulsive and expressed regret for not addressing Dye directly. In her messages, she countered that the comedian endured his remarks, while Dye labeled her actions as childish.

Dye directly replied, stating he wasn’t being overly sensitive but was holding Kightlinger accountable. He clarified he’s neither a tough guy nor a misogynist, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect.

Dye’s management released a statement highlighting that his car wasn’t vandalized beyond the writing. Dye pointed out that such behavior seemed more fitting for younger individuals than adults like Kightlinger.

Christian Toto, host of ‘Hollywood in Toto’ podcast, commented on the incident. Toto noted how comedians have become more partisan, with conservatives often facing criticism. He observed that while teasing is common among comedians, this incident crossed traditional boundaries. Toto advised comedians to use their skills to respond via performance or social media, suggesting Kightlinger’s approach was unfitting.
