The Complex Case of Rachel Buffett and Daniel Wozniak

3 hours ago 0

A month before the tragic murders of Juri “Julie” Kibuishi and Samuel Herr, Rachel Buffett was focused on planning her bachelorette party. According to a former friend, Audrey, Buffett suggested slipping ecstasy into her drink, raising concerns.

Audrey, who shares her insights in the Investigation Discovery series, “A Killer Among Friends,” recounted the unsettling incident. Well, if I slipped it in your drink, you wouldn’t know about it, Buffett allegedly told her. This marked a turning point in their friendship.

Rachel Buffett, former fiancée of convicted murderer Daniel Wozniak, was convicted of being an accessory after the fact.

Rachel and her fiancé Dan Wozniak often argued while intoxicated, and this behavior was witnessed by Audrey. Buffett’s remark about drugging Audrey was not taken lightly. Audrey ended the friendship and was later invited to be a bridesmaid, an offer she declined.

Shortly after, Julie Kibuishi was found dead in Herr’s apartment, with Herr missing. Buffett faced charges of accessory after the fact, as prosecutors alleged she misled investigators during the investigation.

Rachel Buffett, an actress, is connected to Daniel Wozniak, currently on death row for a double murder. During court proceedings, authorities highlighted Buffett’s deceptive conduct during investigations. Audrey’s previous friendship with the couple reflected a different time, before tensions arose.

The Relationship Dynamics

Audrey met the couple in college, finding them fun and engaging initially. However, the tumultuous aspects became more apparent as time went on. Buffett and Wozniak planned to marry on May 28, 2010, but a week before, the murders occurred. Sam Herr’s disappearance led his father to discover Kibuishi’s body.

The Investigation

Initially, police suspected Herr of killing Kibuishi before fleeing. Investigators found this was incorrect when transactions continued from Herr’s account, traced back to a teenager. The youth indicated Wozniak’s involvement, leading to his arrest.

According to authorities, Wozniak committed murder to steal $62,000 Herr had accumulated from military service. Investigators found searches on Wozniak’s computer related to firearms and concealing a body.

Despite the evidence, Buffett insisted on her innocence, maintaining her lack of involvement. In 2018, she was sentenced for being an accessory after the fact, due to misleading authorities.

Audrey’s Reflection

Audrey called Buffett after Wozniak’s arrest, offering sympathy despite their differences. Buffett’s response was dismissive, questioning Audrey’s motives. This reaction added to the complex layer of personal relationships at the core of the case.

The experience significantly impacted Audrey’s approach to friendships, highlighting caution when letting individuals into one’s trust.
