On Wednesday, numerous Verizon customers throughout the U.S. experienced significant service disruptions. As reported by Downdetector at 1:10 p.m. ET, over 2,400 outage reports were recorded. Downdetector, a platform that logs user-submitted outage statuses, noted a sharp surge in complaints starting mid-morning.
Verizon delivers mobile, landline, and broadband services across the nation via its Verizon Wireless subsidiary. The company had yet to provide comments on the outage cause, and the duration of the disruptions was still uncertain.
Service Disruption Details
Most users impacted reported problems with mobile phone services. However, there were also reports of 5G Home Internet and mobile internet issues. A Downdetector heat map indicated clusters of outage reports in major cities such as Albuquerque, Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.
According to Google Trends data at 1:30 p.m. ET, a majority of those searching for “Verizon” were located in New Mexico.
Resolution Timeline and Customer Guidance
Information on when the issue might be resolved remains unavailable. Verizon has explained that mobile network outages occur when unexpected disruptions impact multiple cell sites, affecting users’ voice, data, and messaging services in the area. Customers can find details on the affected services and current repair statuses by checking for Network Notifications after logging into My Verizon.
Verizon doesn’t provide a standard timeline for resolving issues, as the length of outages varies based on the disruption’s cause, the number of affected sites, and repair times. Customers are encouraged to check the network status page for live updates. If there’s no listed outage but service is down, troubleshooting steps include restarting the device, verifying coverage, and ensuring Airplane Mode is off.
During outages, Verizon advises connecting to Wi-Fi and activating Wi-Fi Calling to maintain voice and data access. Devices reconnect automatically when services resume, though restarting may help secure a fresh signal.
For customers enduring service loss over 24 consecutive hours due to a confirmed outage, Verizon states that those on standard monthly plans can request a bill credit within 180 days.
