Investigators in New Jersey are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing of a woman in her Somerville home. The victim, Alyne Espinal, 46, was found with multiple stab wounds to her chest, neck, and thigh. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office reported that her husband, Ignacio Espinal, 55, was arrested in West New York, New Jersey, following the incident. He is facing first-degree murder charges related to his wife’s death.
Authorities responded to a 911 call on Thursday evening, just before 7:30 p.m., which raised concerns for a woman’s welfare residing on Brookside Avenue. They discovered Alyne Espinal deceased from multiple stab wounds inside a Somerville apartment.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that the information currently available stems from a preliminary investigation. As the investigation progresses, detectives continue to interview witnesses, review various records, and analyze forensic evidence.
Ignacio Espinal faces additional charges beyond first-degree murder, including third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and third-degree hindering prosecution.
