Nick Reiner entered a plea of not guilty on Wednesday following a grand jury’s indictment on murder charges. He is accused of the stabbing deaths of his parents, actor-director Rob Reiner and photographer-producer Michele Singer Reiner.
The indictment, dated July 20 and revealed on Wednesday, charges 32-year-old Reiner with two counts of murder. It includes special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and lying in wait. Prosecutors assert that he personally used a knife in the murders.
“This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman. “The indictment unsealed today also adds a special circumstance allegation that the defendant committed the murders by means of lying in wait. We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice.”
During his arraignment in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Reiner appeared with Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Greene. Prosecutors accuse Reiner of fatally stabbing his parents, aged 78 and 70, on December 14, 2025, at their home in Brentwood. Police arrested him that same evening in Exposition Park.
Reiner remains held without bail and is set to return to court on September 15. Conviction on these charges may result in a life sentence without parole or the death penalty. Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will pursue the death penalty.
