Kim Mathers Jailed Following Violations in Court Cases

Kim Mathers was jailed Thursday due to multiple violations of her drug and alcohol testing requirements. Judge William Hackel of the 42-II District Court in New Baltimore made the decision, prompted by a request from prosecutors. Mathers, 51, asked her attorney about the duration of her stay in jail, expressing concern over her situation.

Prosecutors highlighted the need for Mathers to enter a treatment program. Assistant Macomb Prosecutor Joseph McCarthy noted she was encouraged to seek treatment for two months without any progress. McCarthy emphasized the seriousness of her repeated violations, which pose a risk to herself and the community. He advocated for her immediate detention.

Mathers’ attorney, Camilla Barkovic, disagreed with the prosecution’s claims, although she did not dispute the bond violations. Witness Jeremy Stradley from EMS Testing and Freedom Bail Bonds was available to testify but was not required due to Barkovic’s stipulation.

Outside the courtroom, Barkovic defended Mathers, describing her as a victim of the prosecutor’s actions. Hackel revoked her bonds totaling $25,000 without detailing the specifics of the violations.

Mathers, formerly married to rapper Eminem, has faced legal issues since February when first arrested for drunk driving. Another arrest occurred in May for a similar offense. A warrant was issued when she missed a court appearance in June. In July, she was hospitalized after passing out at home and allegedly assaulted a police officer during that incident.

She is scheduled for a probable cause conference on September 3 related to charges from the July incident. Additionally, Mathers was expected to receive a sentence following her no contest plea in May regarding a February hit-and-run accident involving impaired driving with children in her vehicle.

Facing a separate felony charge for a drunk driving incident on May 13, Mathers is accused of hitting another vehicle while driving a Kia. Alongside a show-cause hearing about bond violations, her legal issues continue to be addressed in court.
