The Sox regained the lead in the seventh when Grichuk opened with a double. The Tigers opted to walk Vargas strategically. Benintendi’s second hit enabled Grichuk to score, securing the 4-3 lead. “Players like Grichuk and Benintendi thrive in critical moments,” Venable noted.

Jordan Hicks delivered an impressive performance across 1 2/3 hitless innings, contributing to the win. Grant Taylor pitched the eighth inning, and Bryan Hudson completed a perfect ninth for his fifth save.

Venable expressed admiration for Hicks, calling his pitches “electric.” Venable also praised Grant and Hudson for their resilience, despite being fatigued.

After losing two of three games to the Cincinnati Reds, the Sox captured the first two victories in this imperative series. Benintendi remarked on the significance of the matchups against divisional opponents. “While these games are crucial on paper, we’re focused on consistently securing series wins,” Benintendi shared.

The White Sox enhanced their 26-man roster by adding catcher Jake Rogers and optioned catcher Edgar Quero to Triple-A Charlotte. Venable highlighted Quero’s improvements, particularly in defense, while acknowledging the necessity for ongoing development. Rogers, now with experience spanning parts of six major-league seasons with the Tigers, was warmly greeted by fans during his first at-bat after being claimed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.
