Amanda Kloots on Grief and New Love After Losing a Spouse

1 hour ago 0

Amanda Kloots addresses a common misunderstanding about dating after losing a spouse: moving forward doesn’t mean leaving the person you lost behind. Kloots lost her husband, Broadway star Nick Cordero, to COVID-19 in 2020. She shares that widows and widowers often face judgment when they open their hearts to someone new, despite the fact that grief and love don’t simply vanish with new relationships.

The Heart Holds Many Forms of Love

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Kloots states, “The heart can hold a lot of love.” Dating again, she explains, doesn’t lessen the love for the one lost. She believes it’s actually more significant. As the host of the “Good Grief” podcast, she isn’t suggesting that grief disappears. Instead, she asks for acknowledgment that grief shouldn’t stop anyone from living.

Kloots emphasizes that having space for new love doesn’t erase old love. She explains this is important to understand for anyone involved with a widow or widower.

Kloots asks for support: “Celebrate and help and support friends in your life who are on this journey. It’s so difficult, and if you make it harder, it really isn’t fair.”

Remembering Nick Cordero

Nick Cordero died on July 5, 2020, after a 95-day hospital battle with COVID-19. He suffered mini-strokes, blood clots, septic infections, and a tracheostomy, leading to the amputation of his right leg. Kloots publicly documented his battle, sharing their journey with their 9-month-old son, Elvis, as they started a new life in Los Angeles.

Though she became a widow suddenly, Kloots has continually spoken about Cordero. She stresses the importance of continuing the conversation about loved ones who have passed.

“If he was still alive, I’d be talking about him all the time. He’s still in my life,” Kloots emphasizes, adding that she wants her son to know who his father was. “Keep saying their names, keep talking about them, keep celebrating them,” she urges.

Spiritual Connection and New Beginnings

Kloots says she maintains a spiritual connection with Cordero, feeling his presence in her life and receiving signs that reassure her he’s with them. “I feel like he’s around Elvis and I all the time,” she shares.

This connection influences her current endeavors, including her role on Netflix’s “Let’s Marry Harry.” Kloots serves as a confidante on the show, drawing from her experiences to guide others in relationships.

Learning from Loss

Kloots highlights the lessons learned from loss in her podcast “Good Grief with Amanda Kloots.” It explores various forms of grief stemming from death, divorce, and lost futures.

Six years after her husband’s passing, she carries his memory with her while embracing the future. Her story illustrates that grief isn’t bound by time, nor is love.
