Klobuchar Criticized for Handling of Fraud Scandal in Minnesota

Minnesota Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Klobuchar is under scrutiny from her Republican opponent and critics on social media. She faces criticism for campaigning on the issue of a large fraud scandal in the state, despite not addressing it in any press releases since the crisis began. A Fox News Digital review shows Klobuchar’s Senate office issued press releases on other types of fraud between 2022 and 2025. However, no releases discussed Minnesota’s social services fraud scandal or the Feeding Our Future issue directly.

The Feeding Our Future scandal surfaced in late January 2022, initially involving $250 million. Prosecutors now claim the overall fraud could exceed $9 billion. Among over 1,000 press releases from Klobuchar’s office from January 2022 to December 2025, none referenced the Feeding Our Future scandal or terms like ‘Minnesota fraud’ or ‘social services fraud.’

As Feeding Our Future was breaking and all of the fraud that was being talked about, the absent voice that I was noticing was Senator Klobuchar, said Minnesota Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth in an interview with Fox News Digital.

Critics note Klobuchar’s lack of public action, such as holding or attending hearings on the issue. Demuth, highlighting Klobuchar’s absence, stated that the senator’s long tenure makes her silence on the explosive fraud concerning. Klobuchar had not participated in a fraud hearing that took place several months ago in Minnesota.

Demuth released her own plan to combat fraud, stressing urgency and criticizing Klobuchar for perceived inaction. Billions of our tax dollars stolen, Demuth stated in a social media post, insisting on the need for change.

Despite the controversy, Klobuchar remains the favorite for the governor’s race, following Tim Walz’s decision not to seek re-election amid the fraud scandal. Walz’s dropping out has further fueled debate about leadership and accountability in tackling fraud.

Demuth, now Speaker of the Minnesota House as of 2025, emphasized her commitment to fighting fraud by creating the Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee. She challenged voters to compare her track record with Klobuchar’s recent focus on fraud only during the gubernatorial campaign.
