National Dog Day: Emphasizing Healthier Dog Treats

1 hour ago 0

National Dog Day highlights canine health, with a focus on including dogs in the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative. Sarah Goldberger, CEO and founder of Lord Jameson, an organic dog treat company, believes pets should enjoy nutrient-dense foods.

Goldberger emphasizes the absence of artificial ingredients in their products. She states, “We’ve never used fake food coloring. We’ve never used fake flavoring. All of our bright, beautiful colors come from real fruits and vegetables.”

MAHA Initiative and Pet Health

In February 2025, the MAHA Commission became an official federal initiative, promoting a diet rich in whole foods while reducing refined carbohydrates, sugars, and additives. Goldberger hopes these priorities will impact pet food too. She wants to inspire other pet brands to select healthier options for pets’ well-being.

Goldberger launched Lord Jameson in 2019, driven by the health issues of her dog Jameson. Using all-natural ingredients, Goldberger aims to provide healthier alternatives for treats.

Avoiding Harmful Ingredients

The company avoids preservatives, colors, and flavors that could cause sensitivities. During product development, Goldberger surveyed pet owners, noting that many dogs suffered from allergies and sensitivities to standard ingredients.

Though preservatives are absent, the treats maintain an 18-month shelf life, a challenging achievement during production.

Impact on Dog’s Digestive Health

Goldberger notes the positive effect of their products on digestive health. “Because we’re using whole-food ingredients and no preservatives, you’re going to get a nice firm poop after they eat,” she adds. Feedback indicates improved digestion and suitability for dogs with specific dietary needs.

In response to dietary needs, Lord Jameson launched a line of “protein-inspired” flavors containing organic sorghum; a whole grain rich in protein and fiber.

Business Operations and Availability

Goldberger reports that Lord Jameson maintains stable pricing. “We’ve had no price increase for three or four years, no issues with any tariffs because everything is sourced primarily in North America,” she says.

All operations occur in Boulder, Colorado, including manufacturing, fulfillment, and warehousing. Lord Jameson treats are available in 5,500 independent pet retailers within the United States, some grocery stores, and internationally across four countries.
