Trump Urges Bipartisan Tax Incentives for Domestic Entertainment Industry

President Donald Trump has called for bipartisan support to offer tax incentives aimed at revitalizing the domestic TV and movie industry. This sector has seen a substantial portion of its business relocate overseas in recent years.

Trump shared on Truth Social that he is organizing meetings with leaders from both political parties to advocate for these incentives. Highlighting financial losses in states like California, he called on Democrats and Republicans to collaborate swiftly on legislation to support the entertainment industry within the U.S.

His initiative is partly influenced by actor Jon Voight, a campaign surrogate who has been instrumental in shaping Trump’s entertainment industry policy during his second term. In 2025, Trump met with Voight before suggesting tariffs on films made abroad, seeking to bolster domestic production.

Democrats, typically critical of Trump, showed support for his proposal. Sen. Adam Schiff, usually a Trump adversary, expressed agreement, urging Congress to pass federal film tax incentives to reclaim jobs lost internationally.

Rep. Laura Friedman from California echoed this sentiment, advocating for a film and television tax credit to retain jobs within the U.S., emphasizing the quality of American crews. She highlighted prior discussions with Voight and other industry players, arguing against the trend of jobs moving to regions like Canada, the UK, and Australia.

The Motion Picture Association’s CEO, Charles Rivkin, welcomed Trump’s backing for tax incentives. He stated such measures would enhance local economies and make the U.S. more competitive global storytellers.

Although Trump did not outline specific financial details, he assured that the long-term fiscal benefits of incentives would outweigh initial expenditures.
