The U.S. Mint is set to launch gold-colored $1 coins featuring President Donald Trump at noon ET on Wednesday. Prices range from approximately $1.55 to $2.44 per coin.
These coins, announced in July, showcase Mr. Trump’s portrait on the obverse side. The coins include inscriptions such as ‘Liberty,’ ‘In God We Trust,’ and ‘1776 ~ 2026.’ On the reverse side, the presidential seal appears, displaying an eagle with an olive branch and arrows, alongside the inscription ‘250,’ marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The coin prices vary based on quantity. A roll of 25 coins is priced at $61, and a bag of 100 coins costs $154.50. Sales for the $1 Trump coin begin on Sept. 2, aimed at celebrating the 250th anniversary of the nation. The design serves as a tribute to this historic milestone.
Although regulations traditionally only allow deceased individuals to feature on currency, the Trump administration invoked a 2020 law permitting new designs for the 250th anniversary. These coins are valid as legal tender but primarily marketed as collectibles.
‘Created to celebrate this historic national milestone, these special circulating dollar coins combine everyday American coinage with a once-in-a-generation anniversary design destined to become a standout addition to modern collections,’ the U.S. Mint stated.
Although gold in color, the coins are made primarily of copper, with 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, and 2% nickel. There is no actual gold content in the coins. The U.S. Mint announced a random inclusion of 250,000 special-issue $1 Trump coins with a ‘July 4th’ privy mark in the bags and rolls available for purchase on its site.
