Former NFL Player Alphonso Smith Jr. Found Dead in Florida

Former NFL cornerback Alphonso Smith Jr. was found deceased in a Florida community on Wednesday. This discovery came shortly after a concerning social media post that he purportedly wrote, hinting at past experiences of child abuse and demonic possession.

In the distressing post, Smith shared, “This is it.” A family member, requesting anonymity, confirmed Smith’s death to OutKick. The cause of his passing has not been officially disclosed. TMZ reported a possible suicide, though this remains unverified by OutKick.

Regardless of Smith’s cause of death, his final Facebook entry seemed a plea for help. “Do not cry for me! I tried everything to fight the demons within me,” he expressed. Smith further acknowledged disappointing many due to these internal struggles.

Smith mentioned his friends and family, including his children, in a farewell message. “To my kids, daddy is SO SORRY!” he wrote. He also referred to past abuse inflicted by an older woman during his childhood, adding, “As a result, I did the same to others! Please forgive me!”

Smith’s final notes showed self-reflection and regret. “I am the WORST & I pray my soul rest in heaven,” he concluded. Notably, the day before his post, a video captured Smith offering to buy breakfast for neighbors. Last year, he addressed the Wake Forest football team.

Born in Pahokee, Florida, Smith excelled as a defensive back at Wake Forest. He holds the school record with 21 interceptions. The Denver Broncos drafted him in 2009, and he later played for the Detroit Lions. His NFL career spanned 42 games with 11 starts, ending with 88 tackles and eight interceptions.
