Texas Christian University (TCU) has reversed its decision and reinstated press credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The move comes after the university had withdrawn them just days before the team’s season opener.
The Horned Frogs played their first game of the season in Dublin, Ireland, against the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Due to the revocation of credentials, Star-Telegram reporter Steven Johnson had to watch the game from the stands. TCU had withdrawn the credentials following a report on a locker room incident involving former TCU safety Jacob Fields, who was dismissed after the altercation.

The irony of TCU’s initial decision stems from the fact that their home games are held at Amon G. Carter Stadium, which is named after the founder of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The stadium’s name highlights the connection between the university and the publication.
TCU Athletics released a statement: “Today, TCU Athletics fully restored media credentials to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. In a series of productive discussions, we made clear our position and resolved to move forward. We respect their role as an independent news source and voice in our community, and we look forward to the season ahead.”
The reconciliation suggests that differences have been settled. TCU did lose the Dublin game against UNC with a close score of 15-10. The team is scheduled to play next on September 12, hosting the Grambling State Tigers.
