Rescue teams are actively searching for a missing woman following a vehicle accident in the Calumet River in Chicago’s Riverdale neighborhood. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when a vehicle lost control on the 13000 block of South Indiana Avenue.
The vehicle struck a barrier and ended up in the river. Five adults inside managed to escape and reach the shore safely, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Chicago Police Marine Unit successfully rescued one man, who was subsequently taken to UChicago Medicine. He is currently in serious condition. As of 7 a.m., the woman remains missing, and rescuers are continuing their search efforts.
The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is conducting an inquiry into the accident.
