Son of Former Somali Dictator Residing in Ohio

The son of former Somali dictator Mohamed Siad Barre has been residing in Ohio for several years, according to reports. Ayanle Siad Barre, 61, lives in the Columbus area, a region known for its large Somali community. His sister, Deka Mohamed Siad, also resides in Ohio.

Mohamed Siad Barre ruled Somalia from 1969 until his government was overthrown in 1991. His regime faced allegations of widespread atrocities, including mass killings that resulted in approximately 200,000 deaths. Torture and human rights violations, especially against the Isaaq clan, were reported during his time in power. Barre passed away in 1995.

Historian and Oxford University doctoral researcher Mohamed Haji Ingiriis indicated that Ayanle Siad Barre played a significant role in his father’s administration. However, these claims have not been independently verified by Fox News Digital.

A separate figure from the Barre regime era, Yusuf Abdi Ali, a former Somali military commander, previously lived in the U.S. but was deported. In 2024, an immigration judge found Ali culpable of torture and extrajudicial killings while serving in the Somali National Army.

Ayanle Siad Barre founded Somal Global Services, a translation-services company. Meanwhile, his sister Deka, alongside her late husband, managed Vanguard Home Health Care, accumulating over $1.8 million in Medicare funding. Reports suggest the company functioned legitimately and adhered to necessary regulatory requirements.

Some survivors of Barre’s dictatorship are urging U.S. authorities to investigate the family members of the former dictator. Human rights activist Suleiman Bolaleh advocates for an inquiry into what members of Barre’s family may have known or done during the regime.

While calls for investigation have emerged, they do not imply any wrongdoing by Ayanle or other family members. Attempts by Fox News Digital to reach Ayanle for comment proved unsuccessful. Other organizations, including the ICE, Department of Justice, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, did not immediately respond to inquiries.
