The Indianapolis Colts are grappling with a setback as wide receiver Alec Pierce aggravated his surgically repaired heel during their Sunday night loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The game ended in a 33-30 overtime defeat for the Colts at Arrowhead Stadium.
Pierce exited the match in the first half and did not return. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports that Pierce will focus on rehabilitation to avoid another surgery. The 26-year-old player is likely to be out for several weeks but could make a midseason comeback for Indianapolis.
“It’s likely that Alec Pierce will head to IR while he recovers,” Rapoport stated. “If all goes well, he could recover without surgery. But it’s not a guarantee. Surgery is still possible.”
Following Rapoport’s report, Tom Pelissero revealed that the Colts are bringing in veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton. Slayton, who spent the initial seven years of his NFL career with the New York Giants, was released before their season opener. He joined the Giants alongside quarterback Daniel Jones, now the QB for the Colts.
In the 2025 season, Slayton featured in 14 games with 12 starts, recording 37 catches for 538 yards and one touchdown.
The Colts, standing at 0-2, are aiming for their first win of the 2026 season as they face the Houston Texans in a Week 3 matchup this Sunday.
