Costco has introduced a new food court item that stands out due to its protein content. The Rotisserie Chicken Chef Salad offers 59 grams of protein alongside 840 calories. Priced at $7.99, it features rotisserie chicken, hard-boiled eggs, bacon bits, shredded cheddar cheese, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and creamy peppercorn ranch dressing.

Protein vs. Nutrition Balance

Jamie Lee McIntyre, a registered dietitian nutritionist based in Florida, suggests that considering protein content alone is insufficient. “That’s just a nutrition attribute,” McIntyre explained to Fox News Digital. She emphasized that a food high in protein may also contain significant amounts of sodium, saturated fat, or calories. In the case of the chef salad, McIntyre noted the protein comes from “good whole foods” like chicken and eggs and includes vegetables, but cautioned that the calorie count might be high for a light lunch.

Comparing Menu Options

Other Costco food court selections provide similar protein levels. The Chicken Caesar Salad has 58 grams of protein, which is close to the Rotisserie Chicken Chef Salad. The Chicken Bake offers a substantial 53 grams.
