Israeli Ambassador’s Viral Video Reaches Millions in Iran

A viral video featuring Israel’s U.N. ambassador offering an Iranian representative a Starlink device has garnered significant attention, amassing around 9 million views across various social media platforms. This engagement is notable, with nearly 40% of Instagram viewers located in Iran, according to analytics shared by Fox News Digital.

The Israeli Ambassador to the U.N., Danny Danon, said the reach of the video within Iran surprised his office, as this level of interest is uncommon for Israeli diplomatic activities.

The representative expressed amazement at the video’s popularity in Iran.

The interaction stemmed from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address at the U.N. General Assembly. During his speech, Netanyahu displayed a Starlink device as part of a message directed at the Iranian population. Following the speech, Netanyahu proposed that the device be presented to the Iranian delegation. Danon approached an Iranian representative, but the offer was declined.

Danon shared the incident on social media, where it quickly gained traction. Analytics revealed that 39.9% of Instagram viewers were from Iran, significantly outnumbering viewers from other countries, with the U.S. at 14.3%, Israel at 12.6%, Canada at 5.9%, and Germany at 4.1%.

Danon’s office regarded the substantial Iranian audience as meaningful, interpreting the Starlink offer as a message of freedom and expression for the Iranian people.

Alongside the video’s success, Danon’s office noted another trend. They observed that accounts believed to be Iranian began recirculating an older video involving the former Israeli ambassador, Gilad Erdan, being escorted out of the General Assembly during a protest against then-Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. This video, from September 2023, was misleadingly presented as a current event involving the Israeli ambassador.

Danon’s representative referred to this phenomenon as a “disinformation campaign” aimed at distracting from the attention on Danon’s video.

The viral nature of Danon’s video indicates an influential moment in Iran, with the regime seemingly trying to shift focus.
