Underdog Chicago White Sox Gaining Support for Playoffs

Located near the fictional intersection of “Hell Nah” Ave. and “Toss It Into The Sun” St., the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees sit as giants in baseball. Many fans of rival teams, along with those who dislike seeing these teams constantly succeed, often wish for different championship outcomes. A World Series featuring the Dodgers and Yankees might be engaging to watch, but many believe it’s a scenario too often repeated.

Now, consider if an underdog team could stir excitement among die-hard baseball enthusiasts saddened by their own team’s poor 2026 MLB season. Enter the Chicago White Sox. Recently, Bleacher Report shared a video on social media promoting the White Sox as a team worth supporting as they prepare to face the Cleveland Guardians in the upcoming American League Division Series.

The video begins, “If your team is already out and you need someone to root for in the postseason, let me introduce you to the Chicago White Sox. Yes, THOSE Chicago White Sox.”

A well-known image of Pope Leo XIV wearing a White Sox hat humorously illustrates the connection, as he hails from the South Side of Chicago.

Highlighting their journey, the video mentions the challenge of enduring three consecutive seasons with over 100 losses, including a modern era record of 121 losses in 2024. Recently, they swept Houston, marking their first postseason victory since their 2005 World Series win. To many, this lengthy gap is notable.

“You could not script a better comeback,” the video asserts.

While the impressive turnaround is noteworthy, the video emphasizes that the team’s personalities make them even more appealing. It highlights viral moments from Munetaka Murakami in the clubhouse, the spirited remarks of pitcher Sean Burke, and even Pope Leo’s letter to the team before their Wild Card win. Their spirited celebrations alone offer potential new fans compelling reasons to follow their postseason run.

The White Sox are set to compete with the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field, where Cleveland narrowly led the standings.
