Saquon Barkley, a prominent NFL player and former golf partner of President Donald Trump, recently encountered an injury. During the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams, Barkley pulled up with a noticeable right hamstring issue in the first quarter.
OutKick’s medical expert, Dr. David Chao, attributed the injury to the wet conditions of the field. Chao, previously the head physician for the San Diego Chargers, explained to OutKick that slippery fields typically prevent knee injuries by not allowing cleats to lock on the turf. However, these same fields increase the risk of soft tissue injuries, such as hamstring strains.
The incident occurred when Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts handed the ball to Barkley during the second half of the game in Philadelphia. Barkley then walked cautiously to the Eagles’ sideline and entered the medical tent for an initial examination. After spending considerable time there, Barkley proceeded to the locker room for further evaluation. Notably, he did not seem to exhibit a major limp as he left the field.
The Eagles announced that Barkley’s return to the game was questionable. The injury highlights the challenges players face on wet fields, which can lead to different types of injuries.
