Hollywood Icon Eva Marie Saint Passes at 102

Eva Marie Saint, an Oscar and Emmy-winning actress, passed away at the age of 102. She died of natural causes at her home in Los Angeles, surrounded by family and loved ones. Her representative confirmed her death.

Saint made a remarkable entrance into the film industry with her debut in the 1954 classic On the Waterfront, where she starred alongside Marlon Brando. Her performance as Edie Doyle earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In 1959, Saint starred opposite Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller North by Northwest. Her portrayal of Eve Kendall became iconic as the archetypal ‘Hitchcock Blonde’. During her extensive career, she worked with prominent Hollywood actors such as Montgomery Clift, Henry Fonda, Paul Newman, and others.

Saint’s notable filmography includes roles in A Hatful of Rain, Exodus, The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming, Grand Prix, and Superman Returns. She also showcased her talent on television and in theater, earning five Emmy nominations and winning one for the 1990 miniseries People Like Us. On Broadway, she starred in The Trip to Bountiful.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in New York, Saint initially pursued a teaching career at Bowling Green State University. However, acting changed her path. She was married to director Jeffrey Hayden for 65 years until his death in 2016. She leaves behind two children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
