The University of Oklahoma has officially dismissed freshman wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers from its football program. This announcement was confirmed by team officials on Thursday, coming just days ahead of the high-stakes Red River Rivalry against Texas in Dallas.
The university has not provided a specific reason for Rogers’ departure. Notably, the athlete has been removed from the team’s roster.
A former Oklahoma player and analyst for the Sooner Radio Network, Gabe Ikard, shared his perspective on social media, stating:
“If you don’t treat the people that pour into the program with the respect they deserve, then there’s no place for you at Oklahoma.”
Rogers had a promising start as a four-star recruit from Appoquinimink High School in Wilmington, Delaware. He was highly sought after, having had offers from Alabama, Nebraska, and Penn State before choosing the Sooners. Despite his potential, Rogers recorded only six offensive snaps without receptions in the early part of the 2026 season.
Oklahoma’s head coach, Brent Venables, has a reputation for maintaining strict team standards. Since taking the reins, Venables has emphasized a disciplined culture within the team. His decision to dismiss Rogers aligns with this approach, focusing on program values and accountability.
This decision may impact team depth in the long term, especially during critical game matchups. However, facing Texas on Saturday, the immediate effect is minimal. Venables’ stance underscores his commitment to maintaining a cohesive and disciplined team.
