A shocking incident unfolded in San Francisco, involving the deaths of a former deputy police chief, her daughter, and her husband in what appears to be a murder-suicide. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office provided details about the tragic event, identifying the deceased as 65-year-old Ann Mannix, her 24-year-old daughter Katie, and her husband, 68-year-old retired police sergeant Kevin Mannix.
According to Miguel Almaguer, Marin County Sheriff’s public information officer, the initial investigation suggests a double-murder-suicide. Kevin Mannix is identified as the suspected shooter. Entry into the residence in Mill Valley, following a 911 call around 5 p.m. Sunday, revealed the three family members deceased inside.
The call was made by another resident, who managed to escape safely. This disclosure adds to the grievous reality of a deeply unsettling evening in Marin County.
“It is with profound sadness, shock, and heavy hearts that we address the devastating news that emerged out of Marin County on Sunday evening,” stated Louis Wong, president of the San Francisco Police Officers Association.
The police community is in mourning over the loss of Ann Mannix, who was notable for being the first woman to join and lead the SWAT team. She actively engaged in youth sports and was a board member of the Police Activities League.
Testimonials from those who knew Ann Mannix describe her as highly talented and competent. Lou Barberini, a former San Francisco police officer, acknowledged her skills as an athlete and cop, further noting her popularity within the community.
Autopsies for the three victims were scheduled for Tuesday, with details still forthcoming from authorities. The tragic event has left lasting questions and heartache for those who knew the Mannix family.
