Trump Announces Energy Ceasefire Between Russia and Ukraine

2 hours ago 0

President Donald Trump announced an agreement between Russia and Ukraine to implement an energy ceasefire. This development followed his statement that Russia would provide diesel to the global market. Trump shared the news on Truth Social, stating, “Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine.” He urged both parties to honor the agreement.

The energy ceasefire announcement comes after a similar one made in mid-September. At that time, both countries agreed not to target each other’s energy infrastructure. The recent announcement followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s call for such a ceasefire during an interview with ABC News. Zelensky described it as a fair deal, though not the ultimate solution to end the conflict.

Despite the announcement, there were reports of Russia striking a Ukrainian power plant. On the following Monday, Zelensky expressed support for the ceasefire in an interview with Fox News but remained uncertain about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s commitment.

The news featured in The Hill’s Energy & Environment newsletter by Rachel Frazin, focusing on policies affecting the energy sector. The newsletter also highlighted a rise in oil prices following attacks on Saudi Arabian airports by Iran-backed Houthis.

Additionally, a federal judge criticized the Trump administration for insufficient notification before tree-cutting activities in East Potomac Park. Meanwhile, oil analyst Patrick De Haan commented that the diesel supply deal with Russia might not lead to lower fuel prices.
