Incident at Six Flags Over Georgia: One Fatality and Several Injuries

2 hours ago 0

On Monday, a tragic incident occurred at Six Flags Over Georgia, resulting in the death of one guest and injuries to several others. This incident took place shortly before 4 p.m., as confirmed by officials from the Cobb County Police Department.

The police department stated, “Several people were reported injured, and one person has died.” While specific details about the roller coaster involved were not provided, CBS News Atlanta reported that the park’s Goliath ride was shut down. Guests had to be evacuated from its tallest section using an emergency stairway.

Authorities have not released the identity of the guest who died, and detailed information about the situation remains scarce. Six Flags expressed deep sorrow over the event. A spokesperson mentioned, “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected.” The company affirmed its cooperation with local authorities who are conducting a thorough investigation.

“The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation,” said the spokesperson.

Following the incident, riders were evacuated from the Goliath coaster. Mableton Mayor Michael Owens noted that the city’s public safety director is actively working with Cobb County police and park officials.

The Goliath, operational since 2006, is the park’s tallest coaster. It reaches a height of 200 feet and a drop of 170 feet at speeds up to 70 miles per hour.

In a related development, Six Flags had previously announced last month that it would permanently close its X2 roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California. This decision followed multiple lawsuits claiming over 100 riders suffered brain injuries linked to the ride.
