The University of Maryland has taken decisive action against its club tennis team. Officials suspended the team indefinitely following revelations that some members sent emails with racist imagery to other universities. This occurred in the context of promoting their fall invitational tournament.
The university learned of these emails on Saturday and promptly suspended the team. A symbol linked to the Ku Klux Klan was supposedly included in the communication, raising serious concerns.
In response to the incident, the university referred the case to its police department for further examination. Additionally, the Office of Student Conduct has begun an investigation to determine the extent of the involvement among team members. Officials have suggested that only a few students might be linked directly to the offending email.
