Sen. Jon Ossoff Addresses 2028 Presidential Bid Speculation

2 hours ago 0

Incumbent Senator Jon Ossoff, a Democrat from Georgia, has once again dismissed the notion of running for presidency in 2028. He reaffirmed his stance during a recent Georgia U.S. Senate debate.

The debate took place at the Georgia Public Broadcasting studios. Greg Bluestein, chief political reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, questioned Ossoff on the topic. Bluestein asked, “Senator Ossoff, you’ve repeatedly said you won’t run for president in 2028, but your name continues to surface as a potential contender. So will you pledge right now tonight to serve your full six-year term if you win?”

Ossoff replied with clarity, stating, “Yes, I will. I have zero interest in running for president. I’m not running for president. I’m running for re-election to the Senate.”

Democratic Senate candidate Jon Ossoff spoke at a campaign event in Athens, Georgia, on September 13, 2026. He faces Republican Representative Mike Collins in the upcoming election. Collins has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since early 2023.

Collins challenged Ossoff during the debate, asserting that Ossoff “is running for president” and suggesting he will be a candidate for the Democratic Socialists of America.

Ossoff arrived in the U.S. Senate in early 2021. He has secured support from former President Barack Obama, while Collins has received an endorsement from President Donald Trump.

Georgia, currently led by a Republican governor, has witnessed varied results in presidential elections. The state supported Donald Trump in both 2016 and 2024, while Joe Biden won there in 2020.
