Jalen Hurts Sidelined with Blood Clot, Out for Sunday’s Game

1 hour ago 0

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will not play in Sunday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers due to a superficial blood clot in his calf. Hurts has been undergoing treatment for nearly a week. The Eagles provided details of his medical condition in a recent statement, highlighting their concern for his health and safety.

On October 8th, Hurt’s calf became a point of concern. Following a training session, he sought medical attention after being cleated during a game against the Rams. This was his first treatment session for the calf, even though he had practiced fully both Wednesday and Thursday. He continued to receive treatment and practiced fully on Friday, noted in the practice reports.

The Eagles revealed that an ultrasound conducted on Saturday, after the team’s flight to London, detected the blood clot. Medical staff and doctors in London advised that Hurts could play safely, recommending follow-up within 72 hours. Hurts played in Sunday’s game without restrictions and practiced fully on the following days. The team has been in close communication with the league office regarding Hurts’ condition.

A follow-up ultrasound on Wednesday night revealed movement in the blood clot. Subsequently, Hurts has been ruled out for Sunday’s game as the team assesses the appropriate treatment. His health remains the team’s highest priority.

“Blood clots pose significant risks as they can obstruct blood flow to essential organs, leading to severe health complications, including a pulmonary embolism, stroke, or heart attack. Timely intervention is crucial.”

The Eagles’ openness with the league highlights the seriousness of the situation. Jalen Hurts’ status for games beyond Week 6 remains uncertain. The Eagles face their division rivals — Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, and New York Giants — after the Panthers game.

In Hurts’ absence, Tanner McKee, a veteran with two career starts, is expected to take over as quarterback. McKee has one win and one loss in his starting record.
