“TODAY” co-host Savannah Guthrie once again called for information about her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie. Nancy, 84, was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home nine months ago. A recent social media post from Guthrie included an old drawing by her daughter, Vale, depicting a blue umbrella in the rain with the words, “I know it might not seem like it, but I really need my mommy.”
Guthrie shared the drawing on Instagram, saying “Found this old drawing from my daughter today. It says so much about how I feel.” She expressed the difficulty of maintaining normalcy while missing her mother, describing the continued struggle as “trying to keep going and be strong” for her young children.
“For Annie and Tommy, for Cam and Kristine, for Mike and me and for all of Mom’s beloved grandchildren: We ache for her, we cry out for answers, we cannot move forward,” Guthrie wrote. “We need someone to help us, tell us what you know. Our mom was a light in this world. We want to celebrate her and give her the dignity she deserves. The reward is still available. Please. We are begging you. Please help us.”
The appeal includes gratitude towards supporters and encourages “praying without ceasing.” Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31 at her home in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson. Authorities believe she was forcibly taken. A doorbell camera captured an armed individual tampering with the device.
The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have not identified a suspect or made any arrests. The Sheriff’s Department recently renewed public pleas as key questions remain unanswered. Despite returning to her duties at “TODAY,” Guthrie reassured viewers of her ongoing concern for her mother’s case.
In June, during an appearance on “TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle,” Guthrie addressed questions about her ability to work amid her mother’s disappearance. “I know maybe people wonder, ‘What’s going on? How is she able to do that job? Is she not thinking about it? Did she forget?’ No. Never,” she said. “It’s always with me. I cry every morning on the way to work, and I cry every morning on the way home.”
Six months after the abduction, Guthrie and her siblings reiterated their plea for information. “Every day, we wake up and try to be strong and go on — because that’s what our joyful and resilient Mom taught us to do. But make no mistake — our hearts are in ruins,” Guthrie wrote. “Cam and Kristine, Annie and Tommy, Mike and me — we spend every waking moment thinking of her, longing for her, looking for her.”
Authorities maintain efforts to advance DNA analysis related to the case. Investigators visited Florida to discuss new techniques with lab scientists. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department urged the public that no tip is too small.
Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed earlier this year that Nancy Guthrie “did not leave on her own.” Two ransom notes were released in July. The first, dated February 2, claimed she was safe and demanded $4 million in bitcoin. The second, sent four days later, suggested she died shortly after being taken. Distinctive writing patterns in these notes led investigators to seek the public’s help in identifying the sender. A possible additional ransom text reported in September was determined not credible.
