Progressive Democrats’ Fundraising Efforts and Donation Restrictions

1 hour ago 0

A joint fundraising committee supporting four progressive House Democrats has gathered a significant $2.35 million in this election cycle. Importantly, the committee has elected to bar donations from the Fraternal Order of Police, based on federal filings and its own disclosures.

The Squad Victory Fund, endorsed by Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), serves a dual purpose. It provides these lawmakers and their allied political organizations a unified platform to gather and allocate campaign contributions.

The fund’s guidelines specifically exclude donations from certain entities, highlighting its decision to refuse contributions from the Fraternal Order of Police, America’s largest police union. Additionally, it declines funds from corporations, federal lobbyists, and entities tied to fossil fuel industries. The reasons behind the exclusion of the Fraternal Order of Police, however, remain unspecified in the public disclosures.

The fund also collaborates with four other aligned political action committees (PACs). Donations are typically split evenly among the eight involved groups, with each receiving 12.5% of total contributions. Nevertheless, donors have the option to specify particular recipients for their donations.

According to its FEC summary, the fund has accumulated a total of $2,351,388.02 during the 2025–2026 election cycle, marking its highest fundraising achievement to date.

As of March 31, 2026, the fund reported expenditures amounting to approximately $1.6 million and maintained about $68,000 in cash reserves. These numbers may vary as the committee continues its activities.

It is important to note that contributions to the Squad Victory Fund are not tax-deductible.
