Gingrich Warns Democrats on Strategy After Midterm Success

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has cautioned Democrats against veering further left and avoiding cooperation with President Trump after their significant midterm wins. Speaking on the Cats Roundtable radio show, Gingrich emphasized the risks of adopting a more left-wing agenda, driven by figures like Bernie Sanders.

Gingrich, known for orchestrating the 1994 Republican Revolution, suggested that Democrats’ potential overreach might lead voters to prefer Republicans by the 2028 election. He urged both parties to abandon political strife in favor of working together for the American public’s benefit, warning Democrats of a possible backlash similar to what Republicans faced after recent elections.

Reflecting on Republican losses, Gingrich admitted the party need to acknowledge the outcome. “We got whooped,” he stated plainly. However, he warned against over-interpretation, noting historical context shows even larger midterm defeats have occurred in the past.

Gingrich advised President Trump to focus on five key policy solutions that resonate with the public, to regain voter trust rather than criticizing Democrats. He proposed pressuring Democrats in Congress to align with these solutions or risk electoral defeat.

He also questioned whether Democrats, under leaders like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, could resist pressure from their progressive wing while engaging in bipartisan solutions.

Gingrich pointed out the importance of candidate quality, referencing the Republican Senate candidate in Texas, John Paxton, as an example of poor candidate choice affecting outcomes.

Drawing from his experience with bipartisan efforts under former President Bill Clinton, Gingrich concluded that achieving cooperation requires active participation from the White House, not only from congressional Republicans.
