“Saturday Night Live” recently used its “Weekend Update” segment to parody Elon Musk’s challenging week after the US midterm elections. Comedian Jeremy Culhane impersonated the tech entrepreneur, focusing on his political contributions and their aftermath.
Musk had donated over $446 million to conservative political action committees, hoping to support conservative candidates, especially in Texas. However, several traditionally conservative states, including Texas, leaned Democratic this election cycle, rendering his financial efforts ineffective.
During the segment, host Colin Jost highlighted Musk’s midterm election expenses. In character, Culhane’s Musk humorously deflected by referencing an attention-grabbing Tesla stunt. “Uh, no, I’m in the news because my car did a flip. My car did a flip, remember? It was like a frickin’ Hot Wheel,” Culhane quipped, alluding to a Tesla Roadster demonstration that featured the car flipping in the air.
The impersonation also addressed Musk’s recent decision to pause the production of Tesla’s Cybertruck shortly after the elections. Culhane’s Musk repeated, “Hey, remember when my car did a flip? It was epic. But everyone was like, ‘Whoa!’ But I was just like, ‘Hold my beer.'”
The segment concluded with a fictional demonstration of a Grok feature called “vulgar roast,” where fake Grok harshly criticized Musk. It remarked, “Elon Musk, you’re the worst thing South Africa has ever done,” and “Maybe if you have 100 more kids, one of them will talk to you.”
The post-election period proved turbulent for Musk financially. His net worth dropped by $33 billion in a single day, accompanied by a decline in Tesla and SpaceX shares.
