A citrus drink from Minute Maid, a popular brand in the 1980s, remains memorable for many who enjoyed it during their childhood. Minute Maid’s parent company, Coca-Cola, phased out Five Alive quietly around 1995. Yet, social media still buzzes with nostalgia for the drink.
The Disappearance of a Favorite
Discussions online continue to debate the disappearance of Five Alive. A question posted on Reddit pondered the timing of its decline. An ad from 1979, its launch year, evokes nostalgia among viewers.
“Honestly, I loved that stuff,” commented a user. “Why did it go away?” another user inquired.
The beverage still has a dedicated fan base. Some recall fondly the less expensive frozen concentrate, enjoying it both as juice boxes and from concentrate. A Reddit user humorously described its slow slide out of the can with the onomatopoeic “SSHHHHHHHHHPLOP.”
A Shift in Consumer Trends
Five Alive left the U.S. market mid-’90s, replaced by Coca-Cola’s Fruitopia which launched in 1994. This introduction was an attempt to adapt to new consumer trends, according to Tasting Table. Despite extensive marketing and promotions, Fruitopia was discontinued by 2003.
Recently, Coca-Cola announced the end of Minute Maid frozen juice concentrate products due to changing preferences. However, Five Alive continues to be sold in Canada and Nigeria. Walmart describes it as “a nutritious blend of five fruit flavors” that offers a “citrus zing.”
Efforts to contact Coca-Cola for comments on this matter were made by Fox News Digital.
