Incident Details
The shooting took place around the area of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Sources reported approximately 15 to 30 gunshots during the incident.
Multiple CBS News reporters present near the scene stated they heard sounds resembling gunfire from the White House complex at about 6 p.m. ET. The U.S. Secret Service quickly moved reporters into the White House for safety.
Current Status
The White House lockdown, implemented in response to the incident, has now been lifted. Members of the press have returned to the North Lawn of the White House.
Law enforcement sources mentioned that the two wounded individuals included a suspect and a possible bystander. Both were transported to a nearby hospital. The suspect is in critical condition, while the other person is in serious condition.

According to the sources, Secret Service agents were targeted in the shooting, but none were injured. They returned fire during the incident. Several Secret Service officers received evaluations at the scene.
