IndyCar Driver Ed Carpenter’s Preparation
Ed Carpenter, an accomplished IndyCar driver and racing co-owner, is set for his 23rd start at the prestigious Indianapolis 500. With a strong sense of confidence in both his team and his car, Carpenter looks forward to the competition.
This year, beyond Indianapolis, Carpenter is eager about the Freedom 250 Grand Prix scheduled for August in Washington D.C. This event aims to introduce IndyCar racing to a larger audience, increasing its popularity.
Indianapolis 500 Pace Car and Curt Cignetti
Driving the pace car for the Indianapolis 500 is a sought-after position. This year, the honor goes to Indiana Hoosiers’ head football coach, Curt Cignetti.
The pace car plays a crucial role, unlike a ceremonial first pitch at a baseball game. The driver must maintain the correct speed to ensure race cars can warm their tires efficiently. Slow driving can frustrate competing drivers, so practice is essential.

Recently, IndyCar shared visuals of Cignetti practicing at the Brickyard. He’s been given command of a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X as the pace car. Equipped with a 5.5L twin-turbo V8 engine delivering over 1,000 hp to the rear wheels, it also has an electric motor adding an extra 186 hp to the front axle.
Receiving guidance from Sarah Fisher, a former IndyCar driver with nine Indianapolis 500 races under her belt, Cignetti is well-prepared. Fisher has experience as a pace car driver, making her an excellent mentor.
Pace Car Details and Event Coverage
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X features a striking America 250 paint scheme, leading with Cignetti at the helm on pace laps. The Indianapolis 500 event will be covered starting at 10 a.m. ET on Fox.
